"Sub-" what?
Subtitling (or subbing) is the art of using computer/video technology to place printed dialogue of a film or series onto the screen, not unlike that of a closed captioning nature. In this particular context, subbing more specifically refers to placing printed English language dialogue as a means to understand the original non-English audio track in a foreign animated film or series.
It all started as a joke made by snowball.com about the infamous, seizure-inducing Pokémon episode, comparing the Pikachu to one of the many mythical, malevolent blood-thirsty creatures of the night (long before the little yellow critter was a household name). I carried the gag with me to Animania (along with a giant stuffed Pikachu), and during a moment of total randomness, I referred to myself as "the Pikachu Tamer." The name stuck, for better or worse, and naturally, this moniker became my penname for many things, including our subtitling projects.
